He went to New York public school system and Santa Monica High School. He pursued into the field of acting after he has completed his graduation and for that, he did not adopt the stage names of his father.

 

He started writing short films and at the age of 7, he submitted a script for TV series Night Gallery. He made his debut in a drama which was produced by Catholic Paulist Order. And then he made his debut on stage with his father. He started appearing in movies as well. He got a big break in the year 1982 with a movie named Tex. He also appeared in “The Outsiders” starred by many big actors and it turns out to be a cult classic movie. He continued to appear in many movies such as Repo Man, The Breakfast Club and so on. He was also included in the Brat Pack which is a group of young actors.

 

Taking a look at his behind the camera's scene, he directed many TV series and movies such as Cold case, Close to home and CSI: NY. His directed movies include Bobby and The Way. He also appeared in many music videos such as Blaze of Glory and Say It Isn't So.

 

He won the award for Ensemble of the year at Hollywood film festival for Bobby in 2006 and also won Behind the Camera Breakout Performance of the year for the same movie in 2006 at Phoenix Film Critics Society awards and much more.
