Arundhati Roy's actual name is Suzanna Arundhati Roy. She is one of the best novelist from India. She spent her early days in Aymanam, Kerala. She started her career with television and movies. She wrote screenplays for “In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones” in the year 1989. She has penned down things based on her own experiences. She then wrote the screenplay of much acclaimed film “Electric Moon” in the year 1992. It was her husband Pradip Krishen who directed these films. She released her first novel titled The God of Small Things, in the year 1992. This was a semi-autobiographical book and was one of the best sellers not just in Indian market but overseas as well. It received the 1997 Booker Prize for Fiction and was listed as one of The New York Times Notable Books of the Year. 

 

After her novel gpt famous, she wrote the screenplay of television series such as “The Banyan Tree” and the documentary “DAM/AGE: A Film with Arundhati Roy”. She then started penning down non-fiction books and released novels after novels and became one of the most decorated novelist in India. Some of her noted non-fiction worls include The Cost of Living, Power Politics, Kashmir: The Case for Freedom, and The Doctor and the Saint among many others. Her next bibilography The Ministry of Utmost Happiness was released in 217. Apart from writing, she has also been a subject of controversy as she has raised her voice time and again on various social and political issues in India. She has criticized Anna Hazare and Narendraq Modi on various occasions. For her comments on NPR and NRC a complaint was filed against her in 2019. During Covid-19 breakout in 2020, she was again criticized for her comments that pandemic has incited hatred against Muslims in India.
